May 4th, Saturday 12:30-3:30pm  $35.00*

Instructor:  Elena Homans

Though at first sight it appears incredibly complicated, you can learn to knit stranded colorwork within one 3-hour session. The “Winter’s Fern” hat, designed by Trin Annelie, makes an ideal first stranded colorwork project. You will learn the basics of stranded knitting using combination method (working with two colors of yarn at the same time) and become fluent at reading colorwork charts. The skills you will acquire during the workshop will allow you to re-discover a whole new range of patterns that may have been too intimidating to take on in the past.

There is homework for this class, so please be sure to sign up in advance to allow time for knitting the ribbing of the hat.

Did you hear the gossip? We are getting ready to knit “Tulips in the Desert Socks” designed by Arella Seaton. Guess what? The “Winter’s Fern” hat will teach you skills that will be one of the prerequisites for the socks workshop starting a week after this one. For anyone interested in joining us in the “Tulips in the Desert Socks” workshop, this will be your opportunity to learn stranded colorwork.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN:  stranded colorwork basics (Fair Isle), ambidextrous knitting (English and Continental: one yarn held in each hand), reading colorwork charts.

PREREQUISITES: cast on, confident knitting and purling, knitting in the round, simple increase (M1) and decreases (K2tog).
