Frida's Flowers

Third Sunday of Every Month from 11am to 1pm beginning April 15th.                       $20.00 per session*

Instructor:  Jan Cornelius

Designer Jane Crowfoot was inspired by Mexican Folk Art and the colorful dresses worn by artist Frida Kahlo when designing this piece.  Your creation, combined with your own personal color inspiration, will result in a one-of-a kind treasure work of art.

Each class we will gather to explore the flower motif of the month. This amazing blanket design will be taught with carefully explained lessons and hints for the sample motif.

The student will then have a month to finish the 3-5 identical remaining pieces before the next class.  Joining of the motifs, in the proper order, will be addressed at each meeting and will result in a completed piece by the final class.

To participate, a working knowledge of basic crochet is required.  Chain stitch, single, double, and half-double crochet will be covered during classes as a reminder only. Crochet classes are offered at Yarn del Sol, so come learn or brush up your skills in the next couple of months.

The workshop is not a difficult one, however it is NOT a “learn to crochet” experience.  Lots of help will be offered on color choices, reading, and crocheting the patterns so that each student will feel secure in accomplishing the motifs in a step by step easy to follow manner.

A hands-on approach, years of experience, patience, and FUN will be the foundation for this workshop.

*Yarn del Sol yarns need to be used in the project.

Skew Socks

Two Saturdays:  Feb 17th 1:00-4:00pm, March 10th 1:00-3:00pm              $50.00*

Instructor:  Elena Homans

Skew, designed by Lana Holden, takes the concept of the bias design element to a new extreme by turning the entire architecture of the sock, including the heel, on the diagonal. This design veered off in a direction no one had ever gone before. The designer has two math degrees and is a contributing author of the book Making Mathematics with Needlework. A fair amount of high-school algebra and geometry was resurrected for the design process. But fear not, we promise there is no math in the course! The knitter only needs to be able to count and follow the directions that will be deciphered for you during the workshop.

This is another sock workshop that will certainly broaden your horizons in sock knitting.

PREREQUISITES: basic sock knitting experience (must have knit at least one pair of socks), knitting in the round using Magic Loop, Judy’s Magic Cast On, Kitchener Stitch.
