Learn to Knit for Absolute Beginners (3)

You'll learn all the tools and terminology, stitches and more. The class includes the Learn to Knit Companion Booklet.

Miss Grace Shawl Knit or Crochet!

Three Saturdays:  March 30th 12:00-1:30pm,  April 6th and April 13th  12:00-1:00pm        $90*

The Miss Grace Shawl is an introduction to freeform tapestry style knitting and crochet.  The knitted version is worked in a combination of garter stitch and short rows. 

The crochet version is worked in single crochet with a similar short row technique.  From color choices to the rhythmic flow of the waves, this will be one of the most fun and unique shawls you ever make!

What you will learn:  construction of an asymmetrical shawl, introduction to garter stitch short rows, freeform tapesty knitting & crochet.

Tulips in the Desert Socks

3 Saturdays:  March 9th, 16th and 23rd  12:30-2:30pm  $60.00*

You have made a pair of plain vanilla socks - maybe even a few. You may have tried colorwork before. Was it a hat or mittens? Now what? We have a skill-stretcher for you. “Tulips in the Desert” top-down socks, designed by Arella Seaton, will allow you to polish up your stranded colorwork skills, as well as pick up some new skills along the way. How about learning an easier approach to a well-fitting afterthought heel worked with colorwork? Stranded colorwork in heels and toes makes more durable socks and also give you more comfort.

In this workshop, previous sock knitting experience and basic stranded colorwork skills are required.

There is some homework for the class, so please be sure to sign up in advance to allow time for knitting the cuff of the sock.

 

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN: ambidextrous knitting (one yarn held in each hand), joining and weaving in a new color in colorwork, making your socks to fit perfectly, afterthought heel construction.

 

PREREQUISITES: previous socks knitting experience & practical knowledge of basic stranded colorwork.

Winter's Fern - Intro to Stranded Knitting

May 4th, Saturday 12:30-3:30pm  $35.00*

Though at first sight it appears incredibly complicated, you can learn to knit stranded colorwork within one 3-hour session. The “Winter’s Fern” hat, designed by Trin Annelie, makes an ideal first stranded colorwork project. You will learn the basics of stranded knitting using combination method (working with two colors of yarn at the same time) and become fluent at reading colorwork charts. The skills you will acquire during the workshop will allow you to re-discover a whole new range of patterns that may have been too intimidating to take on in the past.

There is homework for this class, so please be sure to sign up in advance to allow time for knitting the ribbing of the hat.

The Sensational Shirttail Cardigan is so named because of the casual, tailored style that looks sensational on everyone!

In this workshop you'll learn cabling, set in sleeves, proper measurement of pieces, simple increase and decreases and bind offs.

Keepsake Sampler Afghan - New Worshop Starting!

Thirty beautiful 10" squares come together to create a keepsake of knitting for yourself or as an amazing gift.  With a huge variety of stitches, textures, lace and cables - many of the choices are yours to make.  In addition to the 30 featured squares, students will receive alternate patterns to substitute or enhance.

The completed blanket size is 55x65.

In this 7 month workshop you will learn basic cables, simple lace, simple crochet edging, twisted stitches, basketweave and hiding tails. You'll also learn how to join the squares and add a border.

In this workshop you'll learn the easy and correct way to make all the very basic crochet stitches and how to combine them, the best way to hold your hook and yarn, tips on reading a pattern and gauge, how to understand crochet diagrams (which are the new method of writing crochet patterns), and MANY helpful tricks and hints to make you a star crocheter.
